Quick Glimpse at the 2023 Trek Fuel EX

The Fuel EX has long been a staple in Trek’s lineup of full-suspension mountain bikes. It is known for being a do-it-all trail bike that wasn’t afraid to take on rougher terrain when you needed it to. Trek recently redesigned the bike for 2023, and this description still fits the bill. In fact, the Fuel EX is now more capable than ever, with greater travel, slacker geometry, and loads of adjustability. We’re going to take a look at some key features that really make this bike shine.

Starting with the basics, the new Fuel EX has a completely redesigned frame. It got a 10mm bump in suspension at both ends, now sporting a 150mm fork and 140mm rear travel. There’s also a two-position adjustable flip chip (minolink) that slightly changes the frame’s geometry, so those wanting some extra beef can run up to a 160mm fork with just a simple adjustment. Moreover, Trek now offers aftermarket headset cups that can be used to steepen or slacken the headtube angle. If that wasn’t enough you can even run this bike as a mullet, with a 27.5” wheel in the bike and 29” up front.

In line with other bikes we’ve seen recently in this category, Fuel EX now comes with size-specific chainstays to deliver a more comfortable and individualized fit for each rider. Speaking of fit, there’s also a compartment in the downtube for storage where you’ll be able to fit tools and maybe even a snack.

The range of price and specs on the new Fuel EX is perhaps as versatile as its array of features. Sizes range from extra small to XXL, so there’s sure to be a size to fit every rider. This bike is available in both aluminum and carbon frames, with models starting at $3,699 for the Fuel EX 7. The pricing is quite reasonable for a bike of this caliber, with quality components stocked on each build.
